Indigo (Japanese Indigo) - Polygonum tinctorium
Start indoors or direct sow in spring when danger of frost has passed.
Indigo likes a partially a sunny spot and a good amount of water.
When plants are 1-2 feet tall with leaves bruise blue, they are ready for harvest and should be added to the dye vat the same day. For more information about growing and dying with indigo, check out A Dyers Garden by Rita Buchanan.
Each packet contains over 100 seeds harvested from my garden in Fall 2018.
